About Pacific Dermatology
Pacific Dermatology is an Australian not-for-profit – its mission is to improve skin health in the Pacific by increasing the number of specialist dermatologists. Currently there is only one qualified dermatologist living and practising in Fiji and three in Papua New Guinea.
We have provided funds to develop a suitably equipped training centre in Fiji at PJ Twomey Hospital, where qualified doctors from Pacific countries can complete a Diploma of Dermatology accredited by Fiji National University. We support teachers to travel to Fiji to provide clinical and theory-based teaching (and online when required) and we are now raising funds to support more scholarships for the Master of Medicine in Dermatology students, and to buy specialist equipment for the program. To date, 11 Post Graduate Diploma of Dermatology students from Fiji, , Kiribati and Samoa have graduated. Seven Master of Medicine in Dermatology students are studying, from Fiji, Solomon Islands and Kiribati with three graduating in December 2024.
